Continued - Tuesday

2 Corinthians 12:9 (The Message)

7-10 Because of the extravagance of those revelations, and so I wouldn’t get a big head, I was given the gift of a handicap to keep me in constant touch with my limitations. Satan’s angel did his best to get me down; what he in fact did was push me to my knees. No danger then of walking around high and mighty! At first I didn’t think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, and then he told me,
My grace is enough; it’s all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness.
Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ’s strength moving in on my weakness. Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size—abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become.

I can't say that I am "glad it happened" yet.  But, the light is getting brighter and I can see that God is still here with me no matter what.  I can chose to be bitter and angry that this happened to our family or I can praise the Lord that NOTHING DID happen to our baby!  I chose the Praise :)  But I do want to make sure the hospital knows about this blatant disrespect on the doctors part and to stress the importance of actually spending time with patients and getting the whole story before jumping up and calling abuse.  So Yesterday morning I went to Patient Advocacy to voice my concern and to get a SAME DAY Dermatology appointment!  I was not leaving the hospital without one, lol.

So the guy at patient advocacy was very nice and seemed to just try and make me feel better about the whole thing.  He, much like the trend at the clinic, just made excuses for the hasty call to CPS.  He said he can't dictate when doctors call them OR under what circumstances.  I get that!  That is not what I wanted to do by no means.  I tried to explain to him that I am a teacher.  I know about obligation to report.  However, I felt the doctor reported without ANY facts what so ever!  She didn't even complete the well baby visit or hear me out completely.  She even put in his report that I was the only care giver and he does NOT attend any childcare.  Um, not true I told her he goes once a week to hourly and once a week to PWOC nursery.  Not that I thought either of these places touched him or anything, but if it's a viral thing he could have picked it up there.  If she had actually listened to me and called the CDC she would have known and we could have just stayed at the hospital and waited the biopsy results to prove it was viral.  He just nodded and did nothing about this part.  So I went home and wrote it all in an ICE report, along with a bunch of other ones on this whole eventful week!  Her name is Dr Seidenstein if any of you locals are wondering who NOT to see.

He reported the one doctor for his rude behavior to the pharmacist and myself.  Dr. Spuller is his name.

Now Dermatology he could handle, thank goodness!  He called down and asked Dr Clifford to call us back and possibly see us again as soon as possible.  Her secretary said it was possible and she would call back by 2pm.  So we showed a little grace in the situation (hahaha) and went home for lunch and a nap.

A little bit later dermatology called to book an appointment for Jadyn that came through the referral.  WHAT? Jadyn has never even been seen here at Ft Bliss yet.   Dr. Spuller had put the referral in for HER just like he did the prescription.  The secretary said I would need to call him to get him to change it to Jaxson.  I told her no way was I going to talk to him or I might lose it, lol.  After explaining Monday's events she said not to worry she would just go through PA.  She called back a few minutes later and asked if we could just bring Jadyn too.  Since the investigation is still open (waiting on blood results) and now I have another child in the system with "molluscum in the peri anal area"  It is probably a good thing to just get her looked at and cleared.  It was not required, she said she could just cancel her appointment.  But you know at this point I don't want any more questions.  Jadyn is clear.  No molluscum anywhere!  Goofy but done.

I can not say enough good things about Dr. Clifford.  Too bad SHE is not a pediatric doctor.  She remembered us of course and had me come in at 3:20.  She told me that she suggested waiting on the biposy, but the doctor at the clinic had already called CPS and there was nothing she could do to stop it at that point.  Deep Breath Ginger!  Seriously, if Dr. Seidenstein had spent more than FIVE minutes with us then OK, but no she didn't even get a complete physical.  AHHH!  What is done is done, move on.  That is all I can do at this point.

Treatment:  Well the spots are basically on the top of the skin.  They don't really itch him that I can tell, but can spread to other parts of the body if not covered or treated.  Basically it is an autoimmune viral disease.  Which means that the white blood cells really don't detect it.  So the way to treat it is to trick the immune system into recognizing the virus.  She treated 3 of the spots on the butt cheek with the intention of getting them inflamed.  This will hopefully cause the white blood cells to attack and tell the immune system that there are more so he will heal himself.  It is a slow process and he has to go back monthly to have more treated until they are gone.  Hopefully the ones right on his bottom will heal themselves and we wont have to aggravate them.  those three are a little sore now and he has to keep them covered so he won't spread them to other parts by touching.  But Thank goodness we can get back to NORMAL!

Praying that the CPS worker will call us back soon and the whole investigation will be closed out.  All the SNAP paperwork for CDC is filled out and Jax can go back to playing with his friends once a week now.  He actually gets to go tomorrow while I have a physical and get the results of some blood work I had done.  Praying that MY doctor is at least competent and will LISTEN to me.  If not we are going Standard!  If you have a GREAT pediatric physician at the Biggs clinic, or anywhere on Bliss, please let me know who it is!

I am learning that it is all about who ya get when it comes to your impression of the military hospitals.  We had wonderful doctors at Elmendorf and hardly had any issues. But I was talking to a friend today that switched to Standard there b/c of a horrible experience.  So if I can get the right doctor then it will be OK.  But I am not going to put quality care over a copay when it comes to my kids!

On a completely unrelated note, just remember that THIS is government run health care at its best!  There are lots more important issues at hand, but your voice is important! Go and VOTE this year!!!

And the Story Continues - Monday

Here is what I KNOW:  God is always right beside us.  No matter what we are going through He is Faithful and True!  No matter what we are going through His Grace is sufficient.  And it is OK if you have to keep reminding yourself of this fact over and over!  ;o)

There is a light on the other side, and hopefully we have reached it.  But, the road was full of traps and I think I did an OK job at showing Grace to others.  I mean I didn't punch anyone or really chew them out, even though I REALLY wanted to.

My last post was Friday after we got home from the hospital.  Jaxson slept well that night.  In fact he slept all night, which he hasn't done in a while.  So I guess there was ONE praise in this whole ordeal.
We had a lovely weekend.  Justin played football, Jadyn went to a Girl Scout outing, and we watched the the Thunderbirds perform the Airshow from our yard.  Thankfully Jaxson doesn't seem to be upset at all by his ordeal.

Here is where the real fun begins :/

Monday I took Jax to his 8:10 follow up appointment.  We arrived at 7:50 and were not seen till nearly 9 o'clock.  The doctor was a totally new doctor.  He didn't really listen to ANY of my concerns and only made excuses for the other doctors.  He looked at the molluscum and said, "Well I don't know how to treat it in the diaper area, so I'm going to put in a referral to derm."
^&*%^&$%$^& was what I was thinking in my head!  I knew it.  Now that it is not "urgent" I will have to wait on the stupid referral to go through which can take up to 10 days before you can even make an appointment. "Sorry, that's the system".
Then this loon starts to, I guess, complete the well baby visit that didn't get finished from the first doctor on Thursday.  He says, "He is drinking whole milk now right?  He is too old to be nursing"
NO!  Yes he is drinking whole milk but we are still nursing at night.  We are weening, but no sir it is suggested for children to nurse longer these days.  Then he looks in his file and gives me a pamphlet on weening a toddler.  Seriously, I have done this 3 previous times.  I got this, lol.
So he ask if the molluscum seems to bother Jaxson.  Does he itch it?  Well no, but if they decide to treat it I imagine it will get inflamed.  So he prescribes an antihistamine for itching and says it will also help with his cold. (He didn't have a cold before Thursday.)  Also he is giving us some lotion for other dry patches he has on his arms and legs.  Off to the pharmacy I go, thinking I hope they don't ever send me back to this guy.  I was not impressed.  But I was courteous and Thanked him for everything and left.

Yeah after waiting for about 35 minutes to be called to the window. I get up there and the meds are not in the system.  I walk back to the clinic to tell them and his nurse says they are.  No they are not, yes they are, back and forth for about an hour!  Pharmacy gal calls to talk to doctor and he is RUDE to her.  I can tell that she is a Christian as well, because she is trying to be polite when she just wants to scream - me too.  Wait some more, check again.  Yep, now it is in the system.  But, it is under Jadyn.  Call doc back.  He refuses to talk to her again.  She goes down there tells nurse.  Doc says No I entered it under correct patient......on and on until I went down there.  He walked out of an office and I politely took him by the arm and ased if he would walk to the pharmacy with me, lol.
When he got down there I let the girl talk to him.  He told her right in front of me, " I am a doctor.  I do not have time for YOUR computer problems.  I have tried to help you, but I can not hep you anymore.  I am and doctor and do not have time for this. I have wasted too much time on this patient already today!" Then he walked off :(  Oh NO he DIDN'T!!
Upon hearing this the head officer in charge corrected the error for him by some magic I guess and gave me the meds.  We finally left the hospital at noon.

I was so mad I was shaking!  I needed to go to the CDC and talk to them to see if they have any cases of this there, but I am starving and too upset.  So I went home and had lunch and asked my neighbor to watch Jaxson while I went to talk to the director.

When I got there I was obviously still upset.  So I made sure to tell her that I was upset and agitated, but to know that it was Nothing to do with our care at her facility.  I know she thought I was CRAZY!  I told her about all that was going on and she was tearful as well just hearing it.  When she said, "I can't believe this happened to you and your baby."  I just LOST IT!  for the first time I felt like someone was listening to us!  She was so nice.  Yes, they DO have 3 documented cases in the center.  The children are not in Jaxson's class and he had only been twice when he broke out, so we will never really know where he picked it up.  But the good thing is they are familiar with this and will help to keep it from spreading.  Also she said they will inform parents if they notice it on any other children, so that they don't have to go through this mess.    What a relief!  He just has to get the dermatologist to fill out a form saying its ok for him to attend care.  No problem.

I am still upset, but feeling better knowing that I have someone on my side.  She said to come see her if I needed anything or if the hospital was not helping.  I planned on going to Patient Advocacy Tuesday Morning with all my info.  If the docs had just called them before jumping the gun they would know that it was NOT a STD.

Ok my carpel tunnel is acting up.  Give me a few and I'll post Yesterdays events :)

Blessings

Wow! I just don't know what else to call this post

This is what I learned over the past 2 days:  The doctors at Ft. Bliss are very cautious and thorough!

So Thursday morning Jaxson had his regular 18 month well baby visit at the clinic.  We were expecting to get a couple shots and hopefully some cream for this diaper rash that is just not clearing up.  He has had it for a little less than a month and it has strange bumps that are starting to spread.

His appointment was going great.  He is still only about 19/20 pounds, but is meeting every milestone and is very strong ( The doctors will find out just how strong later on in the day!).  He is just perfect and very much a BOY!  He has a few bumps and bruises to prove his new climbing skills :)

The rash, well it doesn't really look like a rash.  The doctor thinks it looks like Genital Warts.  What The Hell?!  Yeah, That was what I said too, out loud. But she isn't really sure and wants to send him to dermatology.  "Be prepared for more test depending on what the Derm finds." In the mean time Jax got 2 shots and went home to nap till the Dermatology appointment at 3:30.

At this point I was still thinking a 15 minute appointment and maybe some followups.  But, The doctor couldn't really identify them and had 2 other doctors look as well.  They all three thought either could be genital warts or molluscum. Both can be spread by a virus like a wart on a hand.  Possible someone at daycare or who knows where could have passed it on to him.  But as you know GW is also spread as an STD. A biopsy of the bumps needed to be done.  Poor Jax :(  That was not fun.

Well do you know what happens when there is the Slightest hint that abuse has or could have occurred?  Yeah, they don't let you go home and Child Protective Services is called.  THANKFULLY, the doctors did NOT suspect us at all.  Really everyone was hoping for the virus molluscum, but the hospital could not risk letting us go without an investigation.  They had protocol to follow.

At this point I have not been able to get Jerome who just thought we were going to a derm appointment.  My phone didn't get service in the hospital and I couldn't dial a long distance number ( His cell is AK).  I finally got Jadyn and Jared at home after school and tried to give her the hospital room # so she could call dad and give it to him.  Hahaha, yeah that was hillarious! She kept calling the hospital thinking she was calling dad. When I finally got her on the phone again she said,  "Mom I don't know where daddy has been.  He isn't answering this number you gave me!" Anyway I finally got him and let him know we were being admitted.  They needed to rule out sexual abuse and any other type of abuse before letting us go.

I'm still wondering who the *&*^&%*&&*( touched my baby!  But as the night and next day went on I was reassured more and more that yes, it was just a virus and NOTHING happened to Jaxson in my home or at daycare!  Whew!  What a relief!!!!

But first this is all poor baby and family had to endure:

We were admited to the Peds unit at WBAMC called for our dinner at 5:45 and they closed at 5:30!  Had to wait to talk to J and get him to bring us food and clothes :(  Ice complaint first thing in the morning about the Food Service at the hospital!

Family Advocacy came to see me and Jaxson and ask if I had any questions.  She is here for support, for WHAT I really didn't know yet.

We saw nurses and doctors who all needed to look at the "area".  Oh and they kept it covered and taped to stop the bleeding which was wonderful until he had to POOP, LOL!  I let the nurse do that one.

The "rape nurse" came and did her evaluation.  She didn't see anything, Praise the Lord!  But we still don't have the biopsy results so she also wants to do HIV and all the other STD tests. Those we can get blood for on Friday.

They take Jaxson down for a FULL BODY Xray scan.  Everything looked Great :)  He unfortunately does NOT like to be held down and screamed for the entire thing.

They pretty much let us sleep all night.  Jaxson actually went right to sleep (imagine that, lol) and slept most of the night :)

Morning came with more X Rays b/c he moved and some of them had to be redone.  More Crying :(  Oh and the stupid people in the Kitchen brought Jax's Breakfast, but not mine.  And you guessed it the Kitchen was now closed :( Thankfully  there was a Starbucks on the way to X Ray.

Still waiting on Biopsy.  Called Jerome on his lunch for an update and discovered CPS was at the house talking to him.  OK so I was doing SO Good Keeping up with my house.  Those of you who know me know this is a big accomplishment for me.  I hate housework!  Well this week has been SUPER busy and since Jax hasn't been sleeping well neither have I....You get where I am going with this?  The house was a WRECK! Of course the one time in your life CPS gets called for an impromptu visit, right? Thankfully she has 5 kids and completely understood.

The nurses try and get blood from Jax.  More screaming and holding down.  Both Arms - NO Blood :(  Try again later.

They actually brought us both lunch and I don't know if I was starving or what, but that chicken was GOOD! hahaha

The Lady from CPS comes to talk to me.  She has also been to the kids schools and talked to them.  She starts out by saying that she does not suspect ANYTHING from my family and if there does prove to be abuse then we have to figure out where from.  But she has to complete her investigation.  Also, she talked to the one nurse and the biopsy is looking like the virus!  YEA HUGE Sigh of Relief!!  BUT the rest of the test still need to be complete before we can go home, BOO :(

The Ophthalmologist comes in and dilates Jax eyes (more screaming).  He is looking for "Shaken Baby" signs, but says his eyes are perfect and he doesn't even need glasses, lol.

They need a urine  sample and tape the bag thingy to him.  It worked just like it should, but Jax again had a little piece of payback for them.  He pooped all over the outside of the bag!  LOL  You guessed it, the nurse changed that one.

Everyone is scared to try and draw blood on Jax this time and they call the pediatric anesthesia guys to do it.  They were Awesome and got it in his foot on the first try, but you guessed it...more screaming :(

They are talking like we might have to stay another night to wait on blood test results :(  Jerome and Justin stop by to check on us before Jared's soccer game.  He WON by the way!  GO JARED !

Dinner for Jax delivered.  You guessed it. Mine is missing.  The guy said he would check, never came back, kitchen closed.

Thankfully!!!  The doctor on call was Awesome!  She talked to CPS and they decided we could go home and await the blood test results.  Wonderful!

We left at 7:30 pm and have a followup to treat the molluscum on Monday.  What in the world is molluscum?  Well I'm researching that this weekend and hope to learn more on Monday.  We are just happy to be HOME and KNOW for Absolute Certain that Nothing happened to my Baby!  Well besides the trauma of the 5000 test run on him in the past 2 days :(

I'm gonna have a bath, a glass of wine, and CRASH in my own bed.  Night all.  Thank you SO much for all your prayers and sweet comments.  Sorry to have kept you all in the dark, but I couldn't really post what was going on at the time.

Love ya,

Ginger
